Why Energy Psychology?
Our world runs on vibrational energy. Everything we see, taste, touch, smell, and hear is made up of energy. These energy vibrations either make our body and our immune system strong, or (if they are disrupted and imbalanced) they weaken it.
Our brains, muscles, organs and glands are interconnected via energy circuits of nerves and energy points called meridians. These circuits “turn-off” when they become imbalanced or blocked by emotional negative overload or trauma. By balancing the body’s energy, the system is able to heal and come into harmony.
A study by Diepold and Goldstein (2008) showed that relating traumatic memories produces changes in a client’s Electro Encephalogram (EEG) readings. These reading normalize after TFT treatment. They did an 18-month follow-up and found that the improvement still held. Also, cortisol (the body’s main stress hormone) dropped after EFT treatments. The client’s heart rate variability (HRV) also improved. An added advantage is that the client does not have to talk at length about the trauma, thus avoiding reinforcing the trauma.
Two Energy Psychology techniques called EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) or TFT (Thought Field Therapy) involve gently tapping on one’s own energy meridians in a pattern, while thinking of the traumatic event. This action interrupts the energy flow, positively impacts the energy centers and releases the intense negative emotional charge. Thus, the vibrations move into balance and emotional healing is achieved.
EFT/TFT treatments do not “erase” the memory; instead they release the negative emotional charge associated with the memory. The client can still remember it, but without the emotional pain.
